Training In Italy

October 2-9, 2010

Learn the FirmoLuxTM Italian lime plaster system while training in Italy on a restoration project near the village of Mondaino in the province of Rimini. Classes run 6 half days and focus on technique building using FirmoLux authentic lime plasters, while working on a restored, centuries' old country home once owned by a professor at the University of Bologna. Train during the morning and enjoy free time in the afternoon exploring the countryside and savoring all that the region has to offer.

Veneshe's Italian plaster training program is like no other:  you'll learn the basics - or refine your techniques - through hands-on training: multiple demonstrations and one-on-one oversight, the practical skills gained from working on authentic, irregular plaster walls, and the unique experience of working on an actual restoration project in Italy. You'll make new friends and leave with highly marketable skills as impressive as your vacation memories.

plaster-restoration-project-in-italy-2When class time wraps up after lunch, we recommend heading off to explore the nearby countryside: an afternoon trip a top  the medieval walled city/republic of San Marino, towering over the countryside; a leisurely stroll along the beach at Fellini's home town of Rimini (still warm and beautiful at this time of year), or exploration of the Roman city and mosaics which lie below its modern streets;  or simply living like locals, savoring and enjoying market day in Mondaino or one of the other small towns and villages that present a window into life in Italy sans tourists.  Or, head west across the mountains into the gentle rolling hills of Tuscany or north to Bologna, stopping at little towns and picturesque villages along the way.

Pick up some fresh bread, produce and cheese at market, and enjoy your early evening exploring the hills and valleys dominated by olive groves and vineyards, still cultivated using traditional methods.  Kitchen facilities are available for preparing communal  dinners, or duck into a local restaurant for more gourmet  experiences -- either way,  the wines, oils and produce of the region are healthy, flavorful and worthy of being savored.

plaster-training-italy-farmhouse-2A word of warning - the fall class is designed for those who want to enjoy a uniquely rustic and authentic view of life in the Italian countryside.  While you can drive to the major cosmopolitan cities within 3-4 hours, we suggest letting the local environs open your senses, inspire your artistry, and unleash your creativity.

Guest accommodations include a rustic, communal country farmhouse nestled in the valley outside Mondaino. Price includes instruction, materials, lodging (7 nights), and lunch. Transportation is not included.

Cost: $2,400 per student. 50% Deposit due by July 31, 2010. Contact us for family, couple and accompanying non-student reduced rates.

"An unforgetable experience in Tuscany!"

Students in our March 2010 class left the East Coast blanketed in snow and ice, arriving to the first signs of Spring in Tuscany.  Through demonstration, sample building and actual hands-on experience, the class learned to expertly apply Piatto Italian Plaster while working on a restoration project in Panzano in Chianti. We worked and stayed at Fagiolari, described by Karen Brown as a bed and breakfast that "radiates a natural charm...Cordial hostess Giulietta has seemingly unintentionally created a haven for travelers just by letting her home be a home. The unique stone farmhouse on three levels is brimming with character and has been restored with total respect for its innate simplicity using stone, terracotta brick, and chestnut-wood beams."  This description only hints at the amazing hospitality, culinary delights, and comforts of home we received as we set about our  project.

Price included instruction, materials, lodging (9 nights) and half board (breakfast and lunch). Classes took place in the morning and following a gourmet lunch, the afternoons were free for exploring nearby Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and the quaint and romantic towns of the Chianti region. You can see finished photos of our restoration project in the Old World Plaster Gallery.

To experience this unique and unforgetable living and learning experience for yourself, check out our upcoming classes in Mondaino 2010 and Tuscany 2011!
