FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LEHIGH VALLEY, PA., August 22, 2007 -- Veneshe Italian Plastering transforms local area homes into works of art with Venetian plaster.
Visit a Veneshe jobsite, such as the Dille residence in Langhorne, PA, and you will see Italian plaster artisan Lori Blomstrom deftly maneuvering her trowel to the soaring sound of Andrea Boccelli or Dean Martin crooning classic Italian hits. The earthy smell of lime permeates the air, and a myriad of textures--from the smooth and translucent to the rough and weathered, materialize on walls and ceilings, transforming what was once a bare surface into a tactile and sensory experience. Close your eyes, and you're no longer in a Delaware Valley home, but whisked off to an Italian villa, where artistry and craftsmanship make each project a unique work of art.
Venetian Plaster is an ancient building material comprised of lime and/or marble, which is applied by hand in translucent layers which harden to stone. Perfect for walls and ceilings, Venetian Plaster can be applied to any room in your home or business to stunning effect. When sealed, it is durable enough for kitchens, bathrooms and high traffic areas. Unlike the DIY, faux products on the market today, authentic lime plasters are environmentally friendly, non-toxic and naturally mold-resistant. Depending on color, material composition, and technique, surfaces can be made to look like crumbling walls or highly polished gemstones.
Long before the Tuscan aesthetic became almost ubiquitous in American interior design, small numbers of artisans were training in the old world artistry of Italian decorative stucco application in the US and abroad. For Veneshe's owner Lori Blomstrom, bringing this rustic yet refined artistry to the Lehigh and Delaware Valley's is the fulfillment of a dream which began with a trip to Italy in 2002. "I was especially drawn to construction and design in which you could really see, touch and feel the work of individual craftsmen, combining artistry with their physical labor," she recounts, and this resonated with my own experience in construction trades." Lori's subsequent training at the School of Italian Plasters and at the Safra Plaster factory in Villa Franca Italy provided the necessary foundation and certification in the artistry and application of color, texture and design.
As a woman owned and operated business, Lori is one of only a small number of female certified Venetian Plaster artisans trained in Italy, and a focus on authenticity in materials and methods distinguishes her work. Lori imports her materials from Italy and uses techniques developed over centuries to stunning effect. While she is experienced in the art of faux finishing as well as painting, she has found that clients that may have started out requesting paint or faux finishes often choose Italian plaster when they view her samples and experience the infectious enthusiasm and knowledge Lori conveys.
"When I began applying Italian stuccos, a whole new world opened up for me personally and professionally, where artistry, client services and hands-on application brought a new level of inspiration and energy to my work," says Lori. "Veneshe is not just my Italian Plaster business; it is my passion, and working with my clients to create places of beauty and self expression, my vocation."
